What are Epsom Salts?
Epsom Salts were first discovered in the seventeenth century by a farmer in Epsom, Surrey in England. He discovered a spring rich in magnesium sulphate and before long people were flocking to the spring to sample its amazing healing qualities.
Grandmothers have been shouting from the rooftops about the ‘cure all’ Epsom Salts for decades, and now it seems they may have been right.
Celebrities including Elle Macpherson, Victoria Beckham and Gwyneth Paltrow have spoken about the amazing uses for Epsom Salts and there is a long list of reasons why it should be a staple in your medicine or beauty cabinet.
The good news is that they can be bought from most chemists and are still really inexpensive! They are completely natural and can be used in a bath up to three times per week.

Epsom salts are actually magnesium sulphate and most of us are lacking in magnesium (hypomagnesemia )
This deficiency can play a role in conditions including Parkinson’s Disease, Insomnia, Depression, Asthma, Heart Disease, Joint Pain, and Diabetes.
The magnesium and sulphate are absorbed through the skin during an Epsom Salt bath and replenish the much-needed magnesium.
Toxins from prescription medication and processed food are pulled out, a process called reverse osmosis, so a form of detox occurs.
The magnesium promotes the production of serotonin and reduces the effects of adrenaline, therefore the bath makes you feel invigorated with less stress and anxiety.
Doctors recommend an Epsom Salts bath for pregnant women. It will relieve aching muscles. soothe skin breakouts and reduce foot swelling, leaving the mum to be calm and relaxed.

Rub a handful of Epsom Salts over wet feet to exfoliate dead skin, then soak in a bowl of warm water containing half a cup of Epsom Salts. The skin will feel soft and refreshed and dry skin can be removed easily with a pumice stone. Athlete’s foot and fungal infection symptoms can be alleviated too.
Mix olive oil and Epsom Salts into a paste and use as an exfoliator before you shower. It is thought to ease blemishes and bruises, reduce cellulite and remove dead skin cells.
Use in a spray bottle (1 tablespoon Epsom Salts/ half cup hot water) to ease the pain of sunburn or take the itch out of stings and insect bites.
Soak the finger in a cup of equal parts Epsom Salts and warm water, the splinter can be removed easily after fifteen minutes.
