Farewell Harvey

Harvey was with us from January until May 31st 2014 he was just seven years old

He continued to live his life to the max. There was always someone on hand to give cuddles and kisses on tap. Holly and Alfie provided all the canine help he needed. We were a good team!

There was no stopping this tiny dog who had found a loving home to live out his last days. He coughed often and you could feel (and actually hear) his chest pounding against his rib cage , but he was running up and down stairs, eating and playing as normal.

The vet increased his medication a few times, it’s all credit to the dog rescue for covering the cost which amounted to a large sum.

My one aim was to give this dog as much happiness as I could in a short time. He sampled ice cream, cream cakes, sausage rolls…whatever made his little ears prick up! (Not all at once I must add, and only tiny portions)

The last day of May was beautiful and Harvey sat in his usual spot in the shade and seemed fine. Then, in the evening I noticed he had coughed up a little blood…I knew it was time.

Harvey died in my arms on the way to the vets, he was wrapped in his very own purple blanket.

We planted a rose to remember him, it always in flower in late May.

Sleep well sweet boy.

  2. Oh gosh.. so sad and yet he had a lovely end to his short life with people who loved him.. He reminds me of my dog Dolly who is a Chihuahua cross.. and who lives a ‘pampered pooch’ life too.. as her little barrel belly bares witness.. xx

      1. Oh yep – I definitely recognise the ‘diva’… Dolly certainly likes her ‘comfort’ and is very ‘snooty’ when it comes to other dogs…xx

      2. Well.. she’s never really accepted another dog but you’re absolutely right about humans – completely! She was mistreated as a puppy and wasn’t socialised with other dogs and even with humans she was very wary… much better now though! x

  3. You were exactly what that little dog needed. Thank you for being there for him. You gave him more opportunities at a good life than he had ever had before he came to you. I know he appreciated just having someone there at the end…thank you. Rip little buddy.
